Kaboom! on iTunes/censorship
Today, April 22nd, the Soul Cannon album is live on iTunes. Very exciting. Thanks, iTunes.
However, I have a beef. It’s about censorship. I understand that iTunes needs to let its customers know which albums contain explicit lyrics (ours contains none). I understand that young children may go on iTunes and look at the titles of songs and albums. I don’t understand why the word “Intercourse” (as in our song, “Verbal Intercourse”) needs to be censored. Who is responsible for this? News flash: Verbal Intercourse means to have a conversation. On iTunes it looks like this: “Verbal I*********e.” Since when is this an obscenity?
From Random House unabridged dictionary:
Intercourse: (n)
1. Dealings or communication between individual groups, countries, etc.
2. Interchange of thoughts or feelings
3. Sexual relations or a sexual coupling.

First weekend in April.

We took off from Baltimore this weekend, making our way down to a quick show in Greenville, NC. There’s more than one way to know you’re a ways from home. Here’s one of them.

We played at a pretty awesome DIY spot, The Spazzatorium. The bathroom is plastered with pages from Spawn comics, and the walls are covered in an array of other things.

Lots of love to Jeff, MC Homeless, Victims of Public Education, Courtney and Leanne and everybody else that made that show awesome for us. We had a great time playing to a great crowd.
A scene that seems to play out more and more often, the longer we play together: one guy walks away from some random idiocy.

Next morning, after a brief panic over Eze’s misplaced chocolate (dude loves his chocolate), we were off to an afternoon show at University of Richmond. The school has an annual event called Pig Roast, or Festivus, depending on who you ask. The houses on Frat Row all open their doors, and tap kegs, at the same time. We were hosted by FIJI and the girls of Delta Gamma. Moments before we played, Matt may or may not have vomited blood into the bushes outside the frat house. Well, he definitely vomited into the bushes, but the blood part may have actually been hawaiian punch. I wish we had a picture of Nathan after the show. He was soaked. I think he worked harder for that show than any we’ve ever played. Afterwards, we hung out in the parking lot for a couple hours giving away CD’s, tees, buttons, and sharing Radish Sprouts with passers by. Jon had been growing the sprouts for several days, finally they turned green sitting on his dashboard in the parking lot while we played. Most of you probably don’t know this, but it turns out Ryan has the ability to spit a radish sprout out of his mouth through the gap between his two front teeth, shooting straight into your mouth through the gap between your two front teeth. Simply amazing.
Pig Roast is the biggest event UR has each year. People were looking pretty snazzy, so we decided to seize some prime photo ops.
When was the last time you saw a guy rocking Reebok Pumps? This guy is standing in front of the bamboo fence at FIJI, and he’s holding a couple of the bamboo cups they were using to serve drinks. That fence was put up the previous night. Pumping was fun.

This isn’t a joke. He’s actually Austrian. Matt’s here, gawking at one of the many people that were in a seemingly endless flow across the parking lot.

!!!Kaboom!!!
That’s the album title. It’s coming out April 22nd. It will be available by just about any means you can imagine, thanks to our distributor, Morphius Records
We have an amazing jacket design, as well as some new stickers, shirts, and the release show flyer, all created, with love, by Mike McNeive.

The Album!
Here’s what’s happening. We recorded everything at Lord Baltimore Recordings with Adam Cooke. We’ll have a final mix in a little over a week, and then it’s off for mastering.
Mike McNeive is working on the art at this very moment.
The release show is Friday, April 25th at The Ottobar, and we’re totally psyched to have our amazing friends J-Roddy Walston and The Business on the bill with us.
Everybody tell your everybody and get ready. It’s gonna be DYNAMITE!

Here’s the first real posting on our new website.
On Friday, January 11, 2008 we played Baltimore’s legendary Ottobar for the first time. There were around 300 in the audience. Our music page has a few songs from the show. Also, read this blog review from Chris Walbert.
